Five New Year’s Eve Party Tips ‘n Tricks
New Year’s Eve is definitely the king of party nights. And what better reason could there be to celebrate? Saying goodbye to an old year, and welcoming the new beginnings of a fresh year. If anything, a party is only the decent thing to do on a night like that.
The thing is, as everyone knows, planning parties is an acquired skill. And on this most celebratory of nights, the last thing you want to be doing is running around making sure your party is going smoothly, that nothing is burning, and that everyone is having a nice time. However, do not feel put off by the prospect of playing hostess for your entire New Year’s Eve. The experts here at headquarters have rallied around everyone and provided us with a few of their tried and tested methods for throwing a great New Year’s Eve party, without sacrificing your night entirely.
Level With Yourself
Unless you’re able to hire an army of staff to help you, if you’re the kind of person who likes to throw a good, involved party, now is the time to take a step back. If you don’t want to be running around all evening, then everything needs to be dialled down a little bit. If you’re having a bunch of loved ones round, then keep things casual and relaxed. Keep your foods simple and ensure that everything a guest might need is easily accessible and visible (like loo paper, for example).
Be Select With Your Guestlist
Basically, you want the evening to be easy and comfortable. Don’t invite people you don’t know very well, and keep an eye at who shows up throughout the evening (an effect you sometimes cannot control). You definitely don’t want to be worrying about people you don’t know that well wandering through your home.
Don’t Overdo The Decor
It is, of course, really nice to have decor at any party, including New Year’s Eve ones. When deciding what to do for decor for your party, keep in mind that you don’t want to be fussing with it all evening, or for it to potentially present a hurdle later on. Fairy lights are a great, no-fuss way to add decor to your party. But if you want to do something particularly special for New Year’s, a great little prop is to have sparklers for everyone to wave around during the countdown. It’s affordable, fun, and really pretty in the dark.
Set The Table Once Only
You want to have the kind of spread that needs you to lay everything out at the beginning of the evening, and then sort of be left to the hungry masses as the night progresses. Which means that you want to have selected mainly finger foods, dips and chips and crackers — food that will keep and remain tasty over a period of time.
The same goes with drinks. Make sure you have enough, because you certainly don’t want to be leaving the house because you’ve run out. What you don’t want to do is overcater on the alcohol either. Which brings us to…
Finally, Be Safe
Parties are great fun, and a really nice opportunity to bond with your close circle and enjoy your hours. However, safety should be a priority for any party-goer. If you are in a group, make sure there’s a designated driver, or that nobody is driving and everyone is picking up a taxi. With all of that clarified and confirmed, it’ll make for a much better evening!
So happy New Year!
