Tips and tricks for pumpkin carving

Craving a pumpkin is one of the most exciting ways to kick of the Halloween festivities. No matter how you plan to cut it or what you plan to do with it, its always wise to have a game plan before you go carving the hell out of it!

Here are a few tips on how to carve a pumpkin:

Step 1: Picking the Pumpkin
Make sure and pick the “perfect” pumpkin. The bigger the pumpkin the better, as it will leave you more room for carving out designs. Also make sure that it has no bumps or bruises on it as this will only make the pumpkin rot faster.

Step 2: Remove the seeds and inside of the Pumpkin
Cut out a circular shape at the top of the pumpkin for the lid by cutting wide enough around the stem. If you are struggling to figure out the how big the lid should be, well make sure it is big enough to put your hand through. After, the lid has been carved, scoop out the seeds and inside of the pumpkin with a spoon or your hands.

Step 3: Design Time
Now it’s time to carve the pattern into the pumpkin. Draw the design directly onto the pumpkin using a marker or a pen.

Step 4: Carve the Design out of the Pumpkin
Use a sharp knife or a pumpkin poking tool to follow the lines of the pattern and carve the design out of the pumpkin. Be very careful at the step to avoid carving out more of the pumpkin than intended too.

Step 5: Light it up!
Now it is time to let your pumpkin shine and highlight your design. Use a tealight candle or a battery light to light your pumpkin.

Now what are you waiting for? Go carve that pumpkin!
